Adelaide Crapsey 18781914 was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Algernon Sidney Crapsey and Adelaide Trowbridge Crapsey. Her father was assistant minister of Trinity Church, Brooklyn, but within the first year after Adelaides birth he became rector of St. Andrews Episcopal Parish, Rochester. Adelaide Crapsey attended public schools in Rochester, then entered Kemper Hall, Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1893. She graduated in 1897 at the head of her class, and entered Vassar College, from which she graduated in 190l. At Vassar she was the class poet for three years and editorinchief of the 1901 Vassarion.
